Engineer's Review: Earthworks Drum Microphones (DK7 Gen2)

I had the privilege of testing a new set of microphones after a considerable time, thanks to the generosity of msonic Baltic.
Specifically, I had the opportunity to use the Earthworks DK7 Gen2 drum microphone kit during the recording of Haldi & ans Flamingo new single at Susi Stuudio. It is rare for me to test new microphones, as I typically rely on my existing collection, which already includes many high-quality options.
However, it is with both admiration and a touch of regret that I must now find a way to allocate 3000€ towards this kit, as the performance of these microphones has left me thoroughly impressed. Here’s why:
-
The SR25mp delivered the clearest overhead sound I have ever experienced.
-
The DM6 captured the most vibrant and dynamic kick drum tone I have ever heard.
-
It has long been known that Earthworks drum microphones for toms are exceptionally pleasant to use, and I can only confirm that this is indeed the case.
Additionally, I incorporated the Vanguard V44 and the ribbon AEA R82 to record the conga, and the results were nothing short of exceptional.
