I have been using Genelec's 1032A's religiously since the 1990's, and have used them for most of my professional life. Today, I am testing out Genelec's 8351B Speakers, and have the incredible Steffenee from Genelec joining me to help take me through the amazing features of these speakers, as well as show me how I can properly set them up in a studio. With a upgraded high-frequency driver and more powerful integrated amplifiers, Genelec's 8351B is a noticeable improvement on the original 8351A model. These 3-way studio monitors combine dual 8" woofers with a 5" midrange speaker and a 1" high-frequency dome tweeter. Thanks to its ACW (Acoustically Concealed Woofer) design, the 8351B offers the kind of broad sweet spot engineers here at Sweetwater look for, while Genelec's unique DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide) delivers precision stereo imaging. On top of all of this, you also get the benefits of Genelec's SAM (Smart Active Monitor) technology, which lets you automatically calibrate your 8351B studio monitors to any control room or speaker configuration. The 8351B's dual 8" woofers employ Genelec's innovative Acoustically Concealed Woofers (ACW) to extend their coaxial acoustical radiation concept to bass frequencies. Hidden inside the monitor's cabinet, these woofers use the entire front baffle as a giant Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) to control directivity over a very wide bandwidth, creating a massive sweet spot. It also provides phenomenal separation from the 8351B's Minimum Diffraction Coaxial (MDC) driver, which reproduces midrange and high frequencies. The result is incredibly accurate monitoring with unparalleled frequency separation, a wide dispersion pattern, and unbelievable imaging. These days, it's not unusual for an engineer to work in a small, less-than-perfect acoustical environment. Genelec's Smart Active Monitor (SAM) technology takes this into account by allowing the 8351B to automatically calibrate its level, timing, and equalization to your room, ensuring that you hear the original nuances of your source accurately, without color or distortion. By using the highly-intuitive Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) software, you can control an entire network of 8351B, giving you a highly-flexible computer-controlled system of monitors and subwoofers. The 8351B features Genelec's Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) with rounded edges and a gently curved front and sides.
